In late 2019 the GOTO collaboration received the news that the STFC has awaerded GBP3.4m to expand the network to an additional node in Australia. We’ll be adding a second mount to our La Palma node, and fully populating both mounts, with 16 telescopes in total at that site. With the additional sky coverage, we’ll be able to cover the entire visible sky every 2-3 days. The funding will also support development at a second site in Australia, likely at Siding Spring, NSW, home of the Anglo-Australia Telescope. Construction is expected to begin in early 2020, for completion in 2021, in time for LIGO’s 4th observing period. Exciting times ahead!
